Design For Manufacturing and Assembly
- Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) is the combination of two engineering methods, Design For Manufacturing (DFM) and Design For Assembly (DFA).
- DFM is a method used to assist in the design of products that will allow for the use of the most cost effective, repeatable, and sourceable materials and processes for production.
- DFA is a method used to assist in the design of products that will minimize cost with the assembly process. Examples of this can include minimizing the number of parts in assemblies, ensuring parts are easy to handle and position, eliminating the possibility of incorrect assembly, and designing parts to minimize packaging costs.
